Here is how the options differ in practice. ### Block paving and clay pavers Concrete blocks in a range of formats and clay pavers for a more traditional finish. Laid on a compacted base and laying course, in herringbone or stretcher pattern, herringbone interlocks best under turning loads, with cut blocks at edges and kiln-dried sand or a stabilising jointing compound. ### Resin bound and resin bonded Resin bound gravel gives a smooth, permeable surface laid over a suitable rigid base; resin bonded scatters aggregate onto a resin layer for a rougher, impermeable finish. Both depend entirely on the base beneath them, which is why we specify and build that base rather than inherit it. ### Gravel and concrete Gravel over membrane with a proper edge and, where the fall demands it, a stabilising grid to stop migration.
